Canine Companions for Independence
is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to serve the needs of people with
disabilities by providing trained service, hearing, facility, and skilled companion assistance dogs
Their National headquarters is in Santa Rosa, CA but puppy raisers and graduates live all over the United States. The local fund raising branch for CCI is South Bay Champions. Check out their web site. They feature different Breeders each month... at times it's Faith's. |

The pups start off with a Puppy Breeder Caretaker where they are birthed and receive their first socialization. At 8 weeks they are turned into CCI and transferred to their Puppy Raisers across the nation where they receive basic training and continued socialization. After approximately 14 months they are turned into CCI for Advanced Training. After approximately 6 months they go into Team Training where they meet and train with their future companion they will be placed with.... |

![]() Trina and Tracker from the "T" litter born 5/14&15/99. |
I was fostering homeless dogs for Pet Network, and working for Mandy at OZ Dog Training , when I happen to mention that I wanted the experience of whelping/raising a litter of pups. I was thinking along the lines of asking the Humane Society for a pregnant dog so I wouldn't have the guilt of breeding…. VIOLA… before I could say "puppy-puppy-puppy" (inside joke) Mandy had me talking to CCI about being a CCI Breeder Caretaker. NOT only that - but she already had the breeder dog in mind. |

Mandy was the Puppy Raiser for Issel and Issel had been designated as a breeder. As they say the rest is history or in this case puppy poop and kisses - lots of them. I have a few hundred puppy pictures and stories to share, here are just a few of them. CCI is one of the many entrys in the Los Gatos Christmas
