The Beginning........
......and loving memories

Snooks

I dressed Snooks in my baby clothes and pushed her around in my buggy, there were times she was called to do farm work and still had her outfits on.

Dog lover from the beginning.
Me, Snooks & pups
left and right

Her son Sut (jumping up on right) became our family and farm dog until I was a teenager.   He herded livestock, hunted a variety of varmints, guarded the house and nipped at my Sisters boyfriends heels as they entered the door on dates.

Sut was the first dog I tried to train driving my sister Sue crazy with repeated "sit Sut sit" through the house.

Sut

Sut was a feisty little terrier, he didn't like kids and I thought I was so privileged when he finally accepted me.
He had a BIG fear of being confined so there was a number of incidents when he was locked in the school or in the house by mistake and he destroyed everything in his way until he got out.... but we loved him, especially me.

When Sut was in his teens he disappeared .... I remember watching the drive for weeks hoping for his return.

Later we found out that the neighbor boys threw him down a dry well and let him starve to death.   I never understood why someone would want to hurt a dog that I loved so much

Kelly
Although I loved the big farm dogs I always wanted a small dog of my own, for my  birthday I got Kelly, named after a white German Shepherd that I saw in a movie the day I got him.

This was a big deal for us to buy a dog, especially one that wouldn't earn his keep.

Kelly in the barn yard -
look at those ears!
Kelly was a Toy Terrier/Manchester mix and weighted about 6 lbs.  I carried Kelly with me every were I went.  When I later went to college and then moved to California he stayed on the farm, that was his home.

Bruno
Bruno was a stray that showed up at school, we kids named him Happy and fed him our snacks.
Bruno

When school was out he lingered by our house but was afraid to come near, Daddy didn't want him there.  When I proved that he wasn't going to kill sheep and that he was a male, Daddy let us keep him.

He did all the farm chores Daddy required and was a great dog, but he was really Mothers dog and followed her everywhere.

Muffin

Then there was the Pit Bull named Muffin that my parents got from a little older lady in K.C. who could not walk her.... she was a pit and very determined but also very sweet.  She took on an entire pack of coyotes that came into the farm one night. Daddy found a couple of dead coyotes the next morning... you didn't mess with Muffin.

When Muffin wanted to lay in the chair... you didn't get in her way.

Chewbacca

My first dog, on my own, was Chewbacca.... a sick puppy I inherited when I bought my first house.

My VERY LOYAL Chewy
was with me for 15 1/2 years.

My goal in life...

is to be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.....

My precious Sophie April 2003
Sophie left me in 2005,  in her memory....

I pulled Sophie from the euthanasia room at the local shelter, she changed my life forever. When we attended obedience class she made me look good.   Because of her I became an assistant dog trainer.   At Oz Dog Training I met many trainers and clients that remain my friends today.   There I was also introduced to Canine Companions (CCI). Through CCI I’ve met hundreds of people across the nation and had the experience & joy of raising 48 CCI pups and fostered 20 others. Good dog Soph!

Smart little Sophie went to acting class at Bow Wow productions where she learned to wave, die when shot, hide her eyes, answer the phone and much more. She gave her all to everything I asked and wore any silly costume I threw on her with class. She learned all the maneuvers in agility, came in second as Cher in a dog celebrity look a like contest and did a station ID spot for TV20.   Meeting each day with glee, she loved to ride in convertibles and caught a number of looks in her tie-dye tank top. She saw all people as friends while remaining a great guard dog, just ask the meter reader. At 24 lbs she reigned as boss over 68 CCI pups and 60+ foster shelter dogs, regardless of size. She was all the things that great dogs are and much more.

Sophie shared her life with me and starred in my Christmas cards for over 17 years When I tell people how I saved her life they remark how lucky she was, I’m thinking I was the very lucky one here. We love you & MISS you Sophie

Tailer

Tailer was a stray who ended up on a friends porch.  They thought he was a pit and scared of him at first..... but what a lover boy he was.  He had natural ears and a natural tail... so we faced our issues with the name Tailer.

Tailer steals and stacks all the dog beds for his comfort.... does look a little guilty....
