![]() Joyce Fisher & Annette Rauch Our special flight suits - they drove the plane into a hangar to deplane and it was still cold. |
| Thule Air Base is the US northernmost base (76 32' North latitude, 68
50' West longitude). Located 695 miles North of the Arctic Circle, and 947 miles south of the North Pole
and approximately 550 miles east of the North Magnetic Pole, on the Northwest side of the island of Greenland. Greenland is the largest island in the world.
There is no "local town." The closest Inuit (native Eskimo) village, Qaanaaq, is 65 miles away. There is no "off-base" except for the bay, the ice cap, and miles and miles of rock. 17,000 men at the Air base in Tule and we STILL waived our minimum 16 hours on the ground rule. | ![]() |
