Takar

Takar's Puppy Raiser was Claude & Judy  of Oceanside, CA.

Takar had two friends who live with the Canterburys.  A fourteen year old long-haired dachshund named Kleiner Panzer (little tank) and Aileron the cat.

Panzer was the boss, hated it when Takar careened into him, and taught Takar quite a bit of manners.

Takar's favorite was Aileron.  They played every chance they got.  Aileron allowed him to drag her around by her head.  She ambushed him when he wasn't looking, and climbed into bed with him. Here's a picture of Takar, taken on a camping trip to Idyllwild  the summer of '99.   He fell asleep with his head in his water bowl.   Actually he seemed to like having one side of his head wet, and  Claude says they saw him do it more than once.

Takar did great in his training with words like magnificent, intelligent, and affectionate  reported..... we got that a lot with the "T" litter.....we're  so proud.

Takar and Aileron (left)  this was taken summer of 2000.... there is a kitty there.... look close.

Takar also loves children.  The Canterbury's took Takar to visit for dinner...after dinner they went inside, to discover that Takar was orange, green and blue!  He had been laying right where the kids had been drawing on the concrete with chalk

Takar's Super Dog Picture
Claude wrote an article for Diego
Family Magazine  about Takar

Since Takar was four months old, he and Claude went to a writer's workshop in a church parish hall.  Among that  group, there are a few poets.  One of the best, Sally Billig of Encinitas, wrote this poem about Takar and the
church cat.  The cat was always curious but seriously miffed that he, without her blessing, felt so at home in her domain.... here's the poem describing this situation...

Portrait of a Cat and Dog

She owned our attention
As she owned the chair,
The center of the floor.
A tawny languorous fluff with bragging tail,
Restlessly sampling sites.

He, the regal interloper,
Disinterested but democratic,
Gracious as a campaigning candidate.
Tawny, too, he of the smiling tail.
He breathed repose,
At home wherever.

In tacit truce
Each looked the other way.

Claude wrote an article about raising and training Takar that appeared in the
