IRVING

Finally it was time for the last pup  to be  born at 9:44 am.  Number seven's color was Pale Pink and he just happened to also be the largest pup of the litter.  He would be given the name Irving.

Does this look like the face of a Police Dog?  Keep reading!

Irving was placed with Puppy Raisers Terry and Allen  of San Luis Obispo, CA.   Irving was their 11th PIT for CCI.  That's A LOT of puppy raising!

Terry sent this picture of Irving Christmas of 1997.  Our handsome boy was now 90 pounds.

Terry and Irving at turn in August 8/23/97.

Irving was very outgoing and energetic, it was decided that he would be released from the CCI program and transferred to Makor a Kennel/Training Facility that provides dogs to detect drugs and explosives.  They provide dogs for mostly government agency's like Police Departments, FAA, US Customs and Schools.

Irving at Makor with trainer Kip.  Irving's name was changed to Merlin... I guess the name of Irving doesn't fit the macho scent dog image.

After the dog receives initial training  his new partner comes to the Makor facility to be trained as a team.  I visited  and watched the Makor trainers, two NARC agents from LA and three Napa Police K-9 officers work their dogs.  You could tell the dogs loved their work and they were amazingly fast and accurate.

Irving was placed with the Clear Lake Police Department.  He was originally taught 6 types of drugs and 9 types of explosives & alcohol to detect.  More scents will be added as his training progresses.
